Shoes

These shoes are twins, they live in my bedroom, and they both spend a lot of time following me on my adventures around London. They like parties, pretty dresses and dancing. In equal amounts.
These shoes always make me smile whenever I wear them. I even take them out some days just to look at them, without wearing them. They have also been on many of my adventures, but they prefer just sitting in a nice café observing the lives of strangers.

Pretty Tuesday

These days I am listening to these guys a lot. I love it! It's a good soundtrack for spring, I think. Lately I've been sitting in the garden collecting freckles, had a party with lovely friends and we drank wine and champagne and laughed and smiled and then I fell over in bed. Today I am eating the rest of the brownies with a cup of nice coffee, and I'm smiling even though I'm sitting here trying to work out my research and scratching my head a lot.... What music are you listening to? I really want to know!

Perfect morning

Waking up to coffee in bed.. He opens the curtains and it's sunny outside, and we can hear nothing but the birds singing through the open window. Oh joy....

The best man.

I am so lucky! I am engaged to a lovely man, who is so thoughtful, warm and loving. He always makes a little heart in my cappuccino (I still haven't figured out how he does it!). He wakes me up with a kiss every morning. He always compliments me when I wear pretty dresses. He always whispers sweet things in my ear. For my birthday recently he got me two bottles of champagne (which we then drank and got quite drunk), a book with the letters of Heloise and Abelard- one of history's greatest love stories. And finally, the best present arrived today on our door, the prettiest bag I have ever had, specially made for me and with my initials on it!

Spring!

It's so lovely when you can sit outside and have your tea underneath the blooming cherry tree... The sun is warm, and the day is long, and the violets are so pretty.

A reminder

"Att det ska vara så svårt. Att man trots en kropp som kan springa, cykla, sjunga, älska - att man trots detta underverk ofta blir dess värsta fiende. Kroppen skal inspekteras och kritiseras. Den ska genomsökas på valkar och celluliter. Vilket slöseri på skönhet det är att oräkneliga kvinnor varje dag vaknar upp i ett fängelse av självkritik. Kvinnor som inte fatter hur vackra de är, utan bara ser fel i spegeln."

Easter

Finally holiday... It is much needed! After a stressful few months it is nice to let everything go and just relax. Many books are waiting to be read, accompanied by a nice cup of tea and homemade cookies! I also have quite a bit of catch up to do on my college work, and my thesis on the development of American art music in the 20th century! Interesting things... And I can't wait to go back home to Norway for a week!
Have a lovely holiday!

Happy Easter!

Spring fever

Spring has definitely sprung here in London, and it's absolutely wonderful to go out without having to wrap up in scarves, hats and thick coats and feeling that the sun is actually starting to feel warm! This weather always makes me feel very creative, and here are two of my latest creations.

And this is my 'creative corner', where I normally sit when inspiration takes me..

I went to another market last weekend to look for treasures. And I found one! An old photo album full of photos. Beautiful strangers dressed up in their nicest clothes for the family portraits. I love looking at their faces, their clothes and the way they interact with each other in the photos. I imagine who they were, what they did and whether they were happy.. Fascinating!

I'm longing for spring...

I long for long, warm days, colourful summer dresses, tea in the garden, picnic in the park, warm summer rain, swimming in the sea, wild flowers, fishing. Not too long to go now!

Afternoon tea

One of the best things with living in England is afternoon tea. Sadly, London does not have many places to choose from when it comes to this, as more and more places are bought over by the big, commercial chains like Starbucks, Café Nero, Costa etc. This is sad. Whereas you in the countryside or smaller towns have many great and tasteful choices of little tea rooms that serve afternoon tea, they are very hard to come by in the big city. Is afternoon tea not trendy enough for London? You have places like The Orangery in Kensington Gardens, which is nice enough, but it misses some of the personal and slightly eccentric feeling of those you tend to find outside London. Therefore I was over the moon when I discovered Shipp's Tearoom near Borough Market, one of my favourite spots in London even before I came upon this wonderful little treasure of a café. It had all the things a proper tea room should have; quirky mismatched furniture and crockery, homemade cakes and sandwiches and excellent personal service. Devastatingly this tea room was closed down in June 2008 due to a dispute with their landlords.. So I am now back in the streets, constantly on a mission to find somewhere to replace this wonderful little place! And the hunt continues.......

More earrings and a necklace..

I added these earrings to the shop today!

And also this necklace..

Dreams of Paris...

Paris- one of the best cities in Europe! So romantic, exciting and full of hidden treasures... Markets and vintage treasuries, and also one of the best bookshops; The Shakespeare and Company . I love bookshops, of all kinds, my favourite possibly being antique bookshops, where you really can smell and touch history...

I love Paris in winter, with its dim light and misty landscape..

All photos are my own.

Lord Byron

This is one of the most beautiful love poems I know:

S
HE walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies,
And all that's best of dark and bright
Meets in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellow'd to that tender light
Which Heaven to gaudy day denies.

One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impair'd the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress
Or softly lightens o'er her face,
Where thoughts serenely sweet express
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.

And on that cheek and o'er that brow
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,—
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent.

Freeze

This is just the kind of winter that I love.... Even better with some snow!
